My first dress completed!

Hello there my friends. My dress is finally finished! I think I jinxed myself when I said that I didn't care if it fit because it doesn't. When I find the right model for it then I will post her picture. Today the hanger will be my model.
I got this pattern from a thrift store Saturday for 10 cents. I got this brown fabric free so all of it cost about $10 not bad.
It is supposed to be the one in the middle. I would have made this dress with only one solid fabric, but I didn't have enough brown fabric and I didn't want to make any big purchases because this was my first dress attempt after all.
I am glad that I tried this even if it doesn't fit me :) There are deffinitly some imperfections ,like around the sleeves and the collar, but that is alright. I really learned a-lot!

I learned how to make darts, fabric covered buttons and buttonholes! So I am feeling pretty good! I am getting more courageous.  I just hope I can find a home for this dress.Thank you for visiting me on my sewing journey today. Feel free to comment as you like.

  2. Connie,

From what I see you did a good job on your first attempt. My first attempt at sewing a skirt a few years ago didnt turn out great. The waist was twisted somehow, but luckily it did fit and I could cover my mistake with a shirt. I have found that with patterns I have to go up to the next size.

  3. I am impressed. I see vintage patterns all of the time, but somehow I never thought about using it to make something!!! DUH!
    YOu did a great job.
Thanks for bringing it to Treasure Hunt Thursday.

  4. Good on you! I detest sewing. The last thing I did with a vintage pattern was to cut the pretty picture outa the front, actually 2 different ones, and framed the the pair for the dressing room wall.

  8. I wouldn't have thought this was your first dress, and to learn so many techniques all in one project. So great! I know how frustrating it can be to finish a project and it doesn't fit you, (I'd say at least half of my clothing I try to make for myself) but better to be a little loose than too small. I bet being a vintage pattern, it is sized to worn looser/ bigger maybe too. Great job and good luck if you use the pattern to make another!
